  1. I, the bookcase (speak to you:) open me and study whatever you find in me.
  2. I am exalted and esteemed more than any other case because of that which is inside me. 
  3. In other cases they keep silver and gold or precious clothing, things that are of no avail and do not save from the flames of hellfire. 
  4. But I, the bookcase, keep the tree guarded in Paradise, which belongs to the beloved.
  5. "What has the straw to do with the wheat?!" In me he keeps (the Torah). 
  6. Turn here and contemplate the perfection of her words and say to her: be (fem.) my confidant, brother, and kin. 
  7. I, the Torah, am of supreme beauty, no blemish is in me. 
  8. How many are the pleasures and enjoyments to be found in me. 
  9. Every man is seeking three things in life, but cannot obtain them except through me: 
  10. Pleasures and enjoyments, combined with greatness, esteem, and praise, and escape from all worries and misfortunes. 
  11. They are called "my cherished, my dear ones." 
  12. I have something else, a fourth thing, which is not … … … , but is treasured in me: 
  13. And what is it? Eternal life, which will never be taken away, as He (God) has said through his precious man:
  14. "Many of those who are asleep in the dusty earth will awake, these to eternal life," which is reserved for those who desire me. 
  15. That life, too, brings honor, greatness, and radiant faces, namely, to those who have become knowledgeable through me. 
  16. (As it is written:) "The knowledgeable will be resplendent like the brightness of the firmament and those who guide the many to righteousness will be like the stars forever."
