Recto: Letter (end only) referring to difficult events that happened to Sayyidnā and the people of Fustat and Cairo, apparently delivered with an item of clothing that al-Shams/Shammās R. Yishaq had worked hard to mend. Dating: likely ca. early 13th century. Verso: Note in a different hand addressed to the writer's 'brother', who is instructed to send the bolt of cloth (yeriʿa) without writing (alladhī bi-lā kitāba) or whose writing had faded (alladhī balā kitābuh) that was on the bench (ṣuffa). The writer informs the recipient that sayyidnā al-rayyis came to the synagogue and raised money until noon and then returned to Fustat.
