תיאור
Letter of appeal/private petition in Arabic script. The writer, Faḍā'il al-ʿŪdī b. Baṣīla (?), had lived for 6 years in Alexandria until he had to come this year ("in which nothing is blessed") to Fustāṭ. He is unemployed there and unable to even enter the market of the druggists due to debts owed to Ibn Ṣ[...] and others. He now perishes of hunger and illness. No one in the family has eaten for three nights. He has three dependents: his wife, his daughter (a widow), and her three-year-old son. He asks for charity especially for the rent of a boat (to travel back to Alexandria?). He concludes with blesings for the addressee, in the midst of which he writes, "If it were not for God and your mercy with regard to this year's jāliya, I would be in prison." مملوكه فضائل اليهودي بن بقيلة
2 بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
3 عبدها يقبل يديها ويعرفها بان عبدها له اليوم
4 في اسكندرية ستة سنين مقيم باودي والجالية
5 تجب(؟) هذه السنة الذي ما فيها شي من البركة
6 طلع عبدها لمصر فبقى عبدها بطال لا اقدر
7 ادخل العطارين لان عليه فيه دين لابن
8 صولة وغيره وعبدها قد هلك من
9 الجوع والقلة والعيلة والبطالة
10 والمرض والذي ياخذون من ايدي الناس
11 اخير والله مني ولنا والله اليوم وحق
12 التوراة ثلثة ايام ما اكل واحد منا خبز
13 وعبدها في اربع انفس مملوكها والمراة
14 والبنت ارملة ومعها بن ثلثة سنين
15 وفضلك كثير مشهور في البلاد وعبد[ها]
16 يشتهي من فضل الله وفضلك شي
17 استعين به في اجرة مركب اسافر
18 عين لا ترى قلب لا يحزن وفضلك

4 ويجازيك بالجنة وكتب الله لك خير[ا

6 فالله لا يحوجك ولا يتخل عبد ولد لهم
7 ولولا الله وفضلك في معنا الجالية السنة
8 كان عبدها يكون في الحبس فالله لا
9 يقطع بك ويفرج عنك في مضايقك
