Writing/calligraphic exercises in Hebrew, Judeo-Arabic and Arabic. Recto, upper right quadrant: Formulae beginning with אדאם אללה and ادام الله in Judeo-Arabic and Arabic. Upper left quadrant: Writing exercises in Hebrew beginning with עתה אקום (Isaiah 33:10). Lower right quadrant: Attempts at practicing the ligature فص and the word فصل or فضل Lower left quadrant: Attempts at writing various formulae to be employed in petitions such as المجلس الساميand الشيخ الاجل. The beginning formula reads as "حضرة مولاي الشيخ الاجل الموفق فخر الملوك والسلاطين سيف المجاهدين عدة الاسلام والمسلمين ادام الله سعادته". Verso: Upper right quadrant: יא עדולי לא תלומני (“Oh one who blames others do not reproach me!”) Upper left quadrant: Arabic poem beginning لله دهر مضا لي سعدت في بعض عمري Lower right quadrant: Arabic rhyming prose beginning من العاشق المستهام حليف السقام which is from Ibn al- Washshāʾ’s (d.325/937) guide to love-letter writing,Tafrīj al-muhaj wa-sabab al-wuṣūl ilā al-faraj. Attempts at writing the taqbīl clause on the margins. Lower left quadrant: Various ḥaḍra-related formulae. Recto, lower left quadrant has the glyph. The scribal practice can be dated to the 12th century based on the honorifics used. Towards the latter part of the Fatimids' rule of Egypt, state officials were given titles based on the titles of Badr al-Jamālī and al-Afḍal, like "al-shaykhī al-ajallī. (Zain Shirazi, YU).
