תיאור

Autograph texts by Yosef b. Yaʿaqov Rosh ha-Seder. Recto: a draft relating to the copying of the Mishna and the Gemara. On the bottom of the page and written upside down in relation to the other text there is a, presumably draft, colophon stating that Yosef Rosh ha-Seder copied a Siddur of Saʿadya Gaʾon in 1201. Verso: opening lines of the Epistle of Rav Sherira Gaʾon with minor variations in wording. The text is entitled ‘Collected Benedictions of Rabbenu Sherira of blessed memory’ and begins with one line of verse, vocalised and decorated. (Information from CUDL)

  1. I, Joseph Rosh ha-Seder son of  Rabbi Jacob “the Head of the Rabbis’ House” wrote this Siddur of Rav [Saa]dya Gaon – may his memory be blessed –
  2. [in Ca]iro in the month of Iyyar [1]512 (of the Era of Documents =1211 CE) for myself,
  3. and in Iyyar 1[5…] in Cairo I found a siddur written in Saadya Gaon’s own hand,
  4. and I’ve compared and proofread it letter by letter and word by word, and I’ve vocalized it.
  5. May God make it a good sign upon me and upon all Israel. Amen
