Letter from Shemuel b. Ḥananya to "ha-Kohen he-Ḥaver," in Malīj. In Judaeo-Arabic with some Hebrew. The handwriting looks like that of Natan b. Shemuel; Shemuel b. Ḥananya appears to have signed in his own hand in the margin of recto. The letter is quite damaged and the contents are difficult to reconstruct. Mentions Rabbenu Elʿazar b. Natan; judges; the city of Malīj; people who are disgruntled about money (not being paid?); 15 dinars; the holy congregation (al-jamāʿa al-muqaddasa); Shelomo ha-Kohen ha-Zariz. May be instructing the addressee to appoint someone to a communal leadership position. Needs further examination.
