תיאור

Verso: two different letters, glued together to create a rotulus for the calendar on recto. Both are mercantile letters from the mid-11th century. (I) The upper letter mentions: Alexandria; something in which nothing remained "except for its sacks (khuyūsh)"; the ships from al-Mahdiyya; updates about the sailing of the ships; something reported by Ibn Mahdī when he came; various other updates about specific ships (including a shakhtūr and a qārib); updates on pricees of specific goods, including oil; a report that "the city/land is tranquil, and the 'waṣāyā' are [...] ... and no one is dearer to the governmen than the traders... the island (al-Jazīra)..."; more updates about specific ships; and a mention of "the fleet" (al-uṣṭūl).
