תיאור

Fragment of a petition from a woman, in Arabic script. She complains about her poverty and the vicissitudes of fate, but it seems she has some high-placed connections. The addressee had previously offered to help her, apparently by giving her charity out of two months of rental income for the "kitchens" or sugar refineries (maṭābikh), however he has not fulfilled this promise. She asks for a rescript (tawqīʿ) for the petition and mentions something already having already gone out of the treasury (bayt al-māl; prior charitable payments which she did not receive?). Some excerpts: تشكي ما هي فيه من قلة ذات اليد وامور الزمان هي و . . . ها اطال . . . . الله تعالى وحضرته السامية وكانت حضرتها قد جاوب على . . . . . . . . بابان(؟) . . . . ها من حق اجر . . المطابخ عن شهرين وكان لي عدة شهور ما اخذ شي و . . بحق . . . . هذا الشهرين . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . وكان ذلك قد خرج من بيت المال بثغر(؟).. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . حضرته السامية التوقيع . . . . . وقد ذكرت حضرته السامية . . . . . . . . . . . . . ويتفضل على عبدته اخراجه . . . . . . . . . . .. الله تعالى.
