תיאור

Legal document concerning financial matters, signed by Yosef Benyamin, and mentioning Yehuda Bunan and Yosef’s son Nissim. Dated 1 Shevat 5579 AM (= 1819 CE). The document frames the details of Nissim Benyamin's employment with Bunan, who is known to have taken ṣarrāf apprentices in Cairo during the 1810s-1820s (see ENA NS 29.19, PGPID 11735). This document T-S 8J20.33 does not state explicitly that Nissim will be learning the ṣarrāflık trade but it does mention an "אגאזה" (ijāza) certificate. This detail along with the fact that Nissim's father arranged his employment points to the likelihood that he was an apprentice/student and probably a minor. MCD.
