Legal query or responsum ENA 684.4תיאור
Legal query and responsum in Arabic script. The query is written in a tiny handwriting with a thin pen, begins with the words alladhī dhakarahū wa-ashhada bihi aṭāla allāh baqā ḥaḍrat mawlāya al-qāḍī al-ajall. The responsum, written with thick pen, reads among other things qad ḫaraǧa ʾamrunā ʾilayhim bi-miṯl ḏālik wa qad taqaddamnā ʾilayhim ... Line 2 may include a name, maybe al-Ḥasan b. Ṣāliḥ b. al-Ḥasan al-Dāwudī. Line 5 may refer to "bi-l-yahūd" (in the Jewish courts) or else bi-l-shuhūd ("with the witneses"). It's not clear that the writing with the thick pen has to do with the content of the query/report. There are several disorganized jottings, which all may be writing exercises or pen trials for a separate state document or documents. One reads "min al-khiyām al-manṣūra" (from the victorious (army) camps) and "lā zālat" something. Directly underneat the "wa-qad kharaja" phrase there appear two lines beginning "wa-qad nafadha." Recto also contains further jottings like this, as well as Hebrew piyyuṭ, possibly in the hand of Yehuda b. Ṭuviyyahu. ASE
