Shaʿal

Description / Bio

Enslaved woman mentioned in a deed of sale from 1108 CE in which she was sold by Abū l-Ḥasan Menashshe b. Seʿadya ha-Kohen to the buyer Ṣedaqa b . Yehuda. Given the lack of any voweling, it is possible that Shaʿal's name was instead Shuʿl or Shuʿal. (Information from PGP and Craig Perry, Slavery and the Jews of Medieval Egypt, Appendix 1, no. 95)
