Aharon Miʿmār
Description / Bio
Court scribe who served within the Karaite community of Cairo during the mid-seventeenth century. In his own signatures Aharon Miʿmār did not include the communal title, or potential surname, Ḥazzan that appears in his son Shelomo's patronymics from later documents (שלמה מעמאר יצ׳׳ו נין המנוח כה׳׳ר אהרן חזן ידיע מעמאר נ׳׳ע). In certain cases, Aharon Miʿmār directly noted that he had served as scribe by adding "sofer ve-ʿed" to his signature. However, there are likely other documents in his hand which he only signed as "witness." Based on his son Shelomo's patronymics it is clear that Aharon Miʿmār died by the year 1670 CE.
