Description

Accounts in Judaeo-Arabic. Dating: 16th-century or later based on the paleography. A variety of names and locations are mentioned, such as: Sūq al-Darra(?) (אלדרה) and Ben-ʿAwūn al-Bramūnī. The repeated word אסקאלה (isqāla) likely references the loading docks of a port (iskele in Turkish, from scala in Italian). For confirmed usage of this term that approximates the Turkish spelling iskele, see: ENA NS 77.197 (PGPID 13526). Requires further examination. MCD.
