Description

Rental contract. Looks like the hand of Shelomo b. Eliyyahu. Abū l-Ghayth Yeshuʿa leases half of a shop owned by his wife to Abū Isḥāq Avraham for 66 dirhams per year to be payed in monthly rates of 5.5 dirhams. Dating: the contract takes effect in Sivan 1540 Seleucid which began 25 May 1229 CE. On verso there are multiple jottings of the sentence, "It is rumored that there was lost from the house of Rabbenu Ḥananʾel...." (Information in part from Goitein's index card.)
