Description

Deed of sale. In Arabic script. Abū l-Ḥusayn Yaḥyā b. ʿAlī b. Aslama b. ʿAbi Zayd (a dealer in dates) buys part of a shop from Aḥmad b. Ibrahim b. Muḥammad al-Muzanī. The shop’s boundaries extend to the property of the heirs of Shuʿayb (dealer in dates) and the heirs of Ilyās b. Kāmil. Dating: ca. 11th-12th century.The price is 165 dinars. The store is located in the Dār al-Tammārin. (Information from Goitein’s index card and Khan.)

  2. [هذا ما ا]شترى يحـ[ـيى و]يكنى أبا الحسين بن على بن اسلم بن أبي [زيد التمار من احمد بن ابرهيم بن محمد]

  3. المزني الـ[ـحصة التي قا]ل فيها هذا انها جميع حقه وحصته من اربعة وعـ[شرين سهما ]

  4. الثالثة من الصف الحوانيت الذي على يسار من خرج من درب التمارين يريد الى [ ]

  5. الى الحانوت المعروف بورثة شعيب التمار وبورثة الياس بن كامل وحده الثاني وهو الـ[ـبـ]ـحرى[ ] 

  6. المذكور في هذا الكتاب وفيه يشرع باب هذا الحانوت المذكور في هذا الكتاب و[ ]

  7. المعروفة بيحيى بن على بن اسلم بن أبي زيد التمار اشترى يحيي ويكنى أبا الحسين بن على بن اسلم بن أبي زيد [جميع الحصة من] 

  8. هذا الحانوت المحدود في هذا الكتاب شائعة فيه غير مقسومة منه بحدود جميع ما وقع عـ[ـليه هذا البيع المذكور في هذا الكتاب ........ ]

  9. [ فيـ]ـه ومنه من حقوقه وكل حق هو له داخل فيه وكل حق هو له خارج منه بمائة [دينر واحدة وثمنية وستون دينرا

  11. [ مائـ]ـة دينر واحدة وثمنية وستون دین را مثاقيل ذهبا عینا مغسولة محققة وسلم احمد[ بن ابرهيم بن محمد المزني الى يحيى بن على بن اسلم بن أبي زيد جميع ما وقع عليه هذا البيع المذكور في هذا الكتاب وقبض ذلك منه بهذا الشرا

  2. This is what Yaḥyā, who has the patronymic Abū al-Ḥusayn, ibn ʿAlī ibn Aslama ibn Abī [Zayd, the dealer in dates, bought from Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad]  

  3. al-Muzanī, the [portion that] the latter [stated] was all his right and portion out of  twenty-four [shares  …. ]  

  4. the third [ … ] of the row of shops that is on the left of anyone who comes out of the alley of the dealers in dates making for [ … ] 

  5. to the shop known by (the name of) the heirs of Shuʿayb, the dealer in dates, and  by (the name of) the heirs of llyās ibn Kāmil. Its second boundary, which is the northern, [ … ]  

  6. mentioned in this document, with which the door of this shop, mentioned in this  document, communicates and [ … ]  

  7. known by (the name of) Yaḥyā ibn ʿAlī ibn Aslama ibn Abī Zayd, the dealer in dates. Yaḥya, who has the patronymic Abū al-Ḥusayn, ibn ʿAlī ibn Aslama ibn 'Abī Zayd bought [all the portion of]  

  8. this shop, which is defined in this document, shared in common with it and not  separated from it, with the boundaries of all that [this sale mentioned in this  document] entailed [ … ]  

  9. [ … ] of rights and every right connected with it, within and without, for one hundred [and sixty-eight dīnārs … ]  

  10.  [ … ]al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Aslama ibn Abī Zayd, the dealer in dates,to Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad al-Muzanī all the price mentioned in this  [document  … ]  

  11. [ … one hundred] and sixty-eight dīnārs, of standard weight, gold coins, washed  and assayed. Then Aḥmad [ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥmmad al-Muzanī] handed over [to Yaḥya ibn ʿAlī ibn Aslama ibn Abī Zayd all that this sale, mentioned in this  document, entailed and he received that from him  …  by this sale,]  

  12. [mentioned in this] document, in the way that property held in common is customarily received. This took place after they had acknowledged that they had seen all this shop and [ … ]
