Description

Letter from Abū l-ʿIzz b. Abū l-Munā to Elishaʿ ha-Sar ha-Levi. Mainly in Judaeo-Arabic. Dating: probably late 12th or early 13th century. The sender has been in hiding because he cannot pay the capitation tax, and his wife and children have been starving. He asks for money to travel to Alexandria where he is promised work (it seems for the government) without being obliged to pay the tax. (Information from CUDL and Goitein's index card.)
