Description

Letter requesting authorisation of a collection on behalf of an orphan girl about to marry. (Information from CUDL). “Food and clothing are at the heart of a pathetic plea to a Jewish leader (nagid) on behalf of a poor orphan girl about to be married: ‘They have nothing for an evening meal.’ The young girl must had had very little to wear, for even a mere polo tunic (jukaniyya) and a malhafa, doubling as a garment for going out and a cover at night, would be appreciated the writer says.” (Information from "Feeding the Poor and Clothing the Naked" by Mark Cohen) ALG
