Description
Three related court records. In the hand of Yehuda b. Aharon Ibn al-ʿAmmānī (active ca. 1201–43). Location: Alexandria. Dated: Monday, 29 Iyyar 4800 + 167 = 4967 AM = 28 May 1207 CE. (I) Sitt al-Maʿānī bt. Yeshuʿa b. Hillel, the wife of Avraham b. Shelomo b. Yoshiyya, receives a house and 100 dinars willed to her by her father from ʿAmram and Zekharya the sons of Netanʾel the Trustee of the Court, the guardians of the orphans of her two brothers, Abū l-Najm (Hillel) and Abū l-Ḥasan, and from Abū l-Faḍl Yosef b. Abū l-Najm. The settlement is referred to as a ṣulḥa. Also mentions Sitt al-Maʿānī's son Shelomo. The second witness (along with Yehuda Ibn al-ʿAmmānī) is Ḥefeṣ b. Yosef. (II) Sitt al-Kuttāb, the widow of Yeshuʿa b. Hillel, receives 60 dinars and 2 needles with gems from the guardians of her grandchildren, while 40 dinars remain due to her. She is freed from the oath of the widow, and her marriage contract is torn. (III) The aforementioned guardians promise to transfer the house to Sitt al-Maʿānī both in a Jewish and in a Muslim court.
