Description
Marriage contract (ketubba). Qaraite. Bride: the widow Sitt al-Ḥusn bt. Moshe b. Aharon ha-Kohen. Groom: her cousin Menashshe b. [...] b. Aharon ha-Kohen. Dated Monday 12th (rest of date not preserved but c. late 11th century, probably in Fusṭāṭ). The bride's representative is ʿEli b. Hillel. Her marriage gift is 200 dinars, of which 80 are paid at once. (Information from CUDL and Goitein's index card.) Line 1 of the second fragment refers to a son from the woman’s first marriage. The sum of 463 dinars is mentioned in (T-S NS J86, ll. 12-13) which was brought in by her, but belonged to “the orphan” (i.e. her son from her previous marriage).
