Description
Opening of a letter from 'the community of Jews on the jazīra(?)' (verso) to Abū Kathīr Efrayim b. Shemarya (1007–55 CE), with extensive rhymed phrases. The letter is prefaced by כי רם יי and the opening words are שלום רב בישע מעורב. Address in Arabic script on verso. (Information from CUDL and Goitein's index card.) It is unclear which "island" the address may refer to, however, for medieval references to properties on Nile islands near Cairo/Fustat, see for example: BL OR 5557B.17 (PGPID 30831), T-S 8J34.4 (PGPID 7720).
