Description

Bottom part of a communal letter in the hand of the clerk of Yehoshuaʿ Maimonides. Refers to an "aforementioned" (al-madhkūra) someone or something. Almost all of the remaining text is a discussion of the punishment due "a wood gatherer" (מקושש עצים), i.e., someone who violates the sabbath. While the Torah commands the stoning of such a person, "due to our sins we do not have the ability to do this" (כמא בלגנא יגב רגמהם באלחגר לכן בעונות מא לנא יד נפעל הדא). He goes on to emphasize that God will punish them in this world and the next.
