Letter: ENA 3916.11

Description

Letter with legal content. In Arabic script. In which the sender reports a settlement (muwāfaqa) that was reached between Abū l-Faḍl Sahl b. Saʿīd and somebody whose name appears at the end of l. 7 (Ibn Muṣliḥ?). It seems that Abū l-Faḍl commits to repaying his debt of 50 dinars with an initial payment of 20 dinars followed by annual payments of 10(?) dinars beginning in Muḥarram 434 AH = August/September 1042 CE. In the last three lines the addressee is asked to do something with this information, perhaps to draft a response from the other party (ان ينص(؟) ما يكون الجواب منه). The margins and verso were reused for jotted accounts in Arabic script as well as Hebrew pen trials (and piyyuṭ?).
