Literary text T-S NS 306.90Description
Verso: Story in Judaeo-Arabic. Extremely faded. Involves a man, a wife, and a son. The man purchases a female slave/concubine (jāriya) and tries to sleep with her but "can't get it up" (אשתרא גאריה פגעל ילאזמהא(?) פלם ינהץ לה). He quotes a verse by the 8th-century poet ʿAmr/ʿUmayr b. Shuyaym al-Quṭāmī, "Even a tarrier may satisfy his need [and the one who makes haste may be at fault]" (קד ידרך אלמתאני בעץ חאגתה)." To which the woman rejoins with the next verse in the poem, "Yet some lost their chance by tarrying and would have succeeded if only they'd made haste" (ורבמא פאת בעץ אלקום אמרהם מעא אלתואני וכאן אלחזם לו עגלוא). The remainder of the story will be difficult to salvage without multispectral imaging. ASE
