Description

State document, probably late Fatimid or Ayyubid. ʿAlī b. Aḥmad the miller reports to a wazir (name unattested) about the dilapidated condition of the masjid al-zimām. The condition has worsened to an extent that one of the floors is about to collapse. He asks that a rescript (tawqīʿ bi-amr) be issued for ʿAlī b. Sālim so that the masjid can be restored to its former glory. The masjid is known today as Masjid Muḥammad al-Ṣaghīr and it is presumably where Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr is buried. YU

  1. عبده احمد بن علي بن احمد الدقاق

  2. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

  3. عدل سيدنا الوزير الاجل اطال الله بقاه وادام نعماه وكبت اعداه قد شمل سائر

  4. عبيده ورعاه(؟) اياه فلا ازل(ارك؟) الله عنا ظله وحرس النعمة عليه وعنده [vacat] ولعبده

  5. دار في مسجد الزمام قد اعتل منها طبقة وهمت بالسقوط وقد خشي منها

  6. ان يسقط على قوم فيلزمه خنانة (؟) وقد احضر محضر يسهل عليه شهادة الحيوة

  7. ان هذا الموضع متى اعقل سقط واضر بهم [vacat] وعبده يسل التوقيع بالامر

  8. العالي الى علي بن سالم باطلاق …هذه الطبقة والرامي (؟) عمارتها

  9. الى عودتها كما كانت من غير ضرر فعل ان شا الله

  10.  حسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل

  11. وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد والسلام
