Description

Accounts mentioning a wide variety of placenmaes, some of which are connected to booklists of titles in Ladino and Hebrew (per FGP). Certain entries are clearly for shipments of clothing and inheritance items, however: בגד , קושאק לבן, etc. The term "kuşak" is "belt" or "cummerbund" in Turkish. One of the entries on the left side of the recto mentions a shipment to Malta via "הב׳אפור," i.e. "the steamship," which helps date this fragment clearly in the nineteenth century. Another entry below that on the recto mentions a shipment "in the hand of" a certain Mordekhay Selāniq (a nickname?) "who came from Amsterdam to ʿIraq (ערק)" for the inheritance of his father Yoḥanan Ṣevi "a resident of ʿIraq." MCD.
