Description

Most probably a Fatimid report, but written in a decree-like format, or could be a decree relating the contents of the report/petition, in Arabic script. The document fragment relates to the fiscal administration of an iqṭāʿ. It notes that the assigned land had, for many years, not been liable for canal/dyke administration (associated with jusūr, or irrigation works) or for dīwānī exactions. It then records a change in practice, with officials imposing new obligations and financial liabilities upon its inhabitants. The fragment ends with an instruction from an amir to conduct a formal inspection (kashf), suggesting a dispute over fiscal rights and exemptions. Reused at upper right and on recto for piyyuṭ.
