Description

Fragment of a letter, possibly, in the hand of Ḥalfon b. Menashshe ha-Levi (1100–38 CE). Six lines are preserved, with wide line spacing. Explaining that for the most part in Fustat or Egypt the legal practice is for real estate deeds including deeds of sale (ḥujaj) and of gift to be drawn up only in Muslim courts without any need for another document to be drawn up in Jewish courts, because the deed has more validity this way (li-anna bi-dhālika tuthbat). Someone else has recopied some of the words in the spaces between the lines.
