Description

Accounts in Judaeo-Arabic. Dated on the verso in the first row of entries: 6 Ramaḍān _43 AH but the scribe omitted the hundreds digit. The paleography could support a dating estimate of [8]43 AH or [9]43 AH, in the 15th or 16th century. For each day of the week, lists the boats (qārib) belonging to different people (Muḥammad, Shihāb al-Dīn, Naṣr al-Dīn. . .) and commercial goods and numbers associated with them. An entry mentions "rice from Damietta" on the left side of the recto and the town Minyat Salsīl is mentioned in entries on both the recto and verso (modern-day Mīt Salsīl, ~25 miles due south of Damietta). At least one other potential placename appears in the entries: (verso) Minyat Budayr. Needs further examination. MCD.
