Description

Letter of appeal for charity. In Judaeo-Arabic. Dating: 12th or 13th century. The sender owes capitation tax (jizya) payments for himself and for his son. He asks the addressee to keep the copy of the Mishna as collateral and loan him a dinar against it. (Information in part from CUDL)
