Description
Letter from Shelomo Abū Shaʿra to a certain ʿOvadya. In Judaeo-Arabic. Dating: Late, perhaps 15th–18th century. The sender's name is given in the body of the letter and in the inked stamp on verso. (This Shelomo Abū Shaʿra is not the same as the Shelomo Bū Shaʿra from ca. 1800 whose papers are preserved in the Prize Papers Collections and on whom Mohamed A. H. Ahmed and Matthew Dudley have published.) The letter mainly deals with greetings and letters to and from various people, such as the son of the muzayyina (female barber?), Shelomo al-Yerushalmi, Yiṣḥaq Fuḥayma and to his business partner Yaʿqūb/Yaʿaqov Ashkenazi, Sulaymān Abū Suʿadā (?), [...] b. Yehuda, Umm Yūsuf, and Sulaymān b. Saʿadya. Joins: Alan Elbaum. The join between the bottom two pieces is not continuous; there is probably a fourth piece still missing. (Information in part from CUDL.)
