Description

Receipt issued to Abū l-Ḥasan b. Wahb for his ḍamān on dyeing in Madīnat al-Fayyūm. Dated: Beginning of Dhū l-Ḥijja 403. Amount: one-quarter, one-sixth, and one-half of one-eighth (Khan reads two, one-quarter and one-sixth). Written by the jahbadh Mīkhāʾīl b. ʿAbd al-Masīḥ. Measurements: 12.5 × 8.4 cm. The verso is blank.

  7. بمشارفة القاضى السعيد الرشيد ثقة الملك مكين الدولة وامينها صنيعة امير المومنين
  8. ابى الحسن على بن بهار وعمالة ابو السرى ثيدر بن يحنس

  3. [They have registered the amount of] two, a quarter and a sixth.
  4. Praise be to God for his bounties.
  5. In the name of God, the merciful and compassionate.
  6. A valid receipt has been granted to ʾAbū al-Ḥasan ibn Wahb for the sum owed through his standing surety for the estates in the town of al-Fayyūm for the year four-hundred and three,
  7. under the supervision of the auspicious, rightly-guided judge, Ṯiqat al-Mulk Makīn al-Dawla wa-ʾAmīnuhā, the protégé of the commander of the faithful,
  8. ʾAbū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn Bahār, with ʾAbū al-Sarī Theodor ibn Yuḥannis acting as accountant.
  9. Half of this: One, an eighth and two qīrāts (= a twelfth). Its amount: Two, a quarter and a sixth.
  10. Written by Mīḵāʾīl ibn ʿAbd al-Masīḥ, the cashier. Valid. The beginning of Ḏū al-Ḥijja,
  11. in the year four-hundred and three.
