Description

List, commercial, late (FGP). The currency is listed in two places on the recto as "אנגרסי" which is likely a reference to the Hungarian gold engrussī (aka forint). Dating: likely 16th-century based on the paleography and references to Ottoman administrative titles. One of the entries on the recto mentions "ʿĀmr multazim (tax-farmer) of Bilbeis." The neighboring entry mentions "Yosef ... emin(?) (customs official) of דהשורה (Dahshūra?) and elsewhere, Gharbiyya". This location is probably distinct from Dahshūr, which is 25 miles south of Cairo, and part of the Gharbiyya region of the Nile Delta. Another entry on the verso mentions "Yiṣḥaq(?) Buena, emīn (customs official), of Qarqashanda." Requires further examination. MCD.
