Description

Letter from Shelomo b. Eliyyahu, in a town in the Rīf, to his father Eliyyahu the Judge, in Fustat. In Shelomo's bad handwriting. He greets his mother and the children. He urges his father to fulfill his promise to come spend the coming Shabbat with him and slaughter for the community. If he comes, he should bring the knife and the tefillin and a ream of white paper. Shelomo's arm (dhirāʿ) has started to heal from an injury. Eliyyahu should also bring with him Shelomo's tax receipts (al-wuṣūlāt alladhī lī) because the tax officials arrested him but let him go when he said he was registered as a Shāmī (Levantine). But he says he will be in big trouble if they demand to see the tax receipts and he doesn't have them. He tells his father to keep his brother in his prayers.
