Description
India Book (IB), II, 73. Quittance by the rabbinical court of Fustat for the sum of 173 and 7/24 mithqāl dinars, sent by Maḍmūn II at the hands of a Muslim Qadi named al-Sadīd ʿAlī b. Maḥmūd (Ibn al-Muḥtasib). The sum of money represents the assets of the deceased man Petaḥya. In his capacity as Nagīd of Yemen, Maḍmūn II evidently salvaged Petaḥya's assets and sent them to the deceased man's son Abu ʾl-Ḥasan in Alexandria. Fustat, probably 1214. This Petaḥya is probably to be identified with the deceased India trader Futūḥ who died on a ship on the India route (PGPID 5405).
