Description

Report to a vizier of al-Ḥāfiẓ from a military official. The sender refers to previous petitions, and also makes a new request for a rescript. Dating: second quarter of the 6th/12th century. (Information from Khan, ALAD.) EMS

  2. [              ] على ظهر كتاب متولى الترتيب ابتهلوا الماشائين [                                     ]
  3. [          الاد ]عية الصالحة بدوام هذه الايام [ الزاهرة                                             ]
  4. [              ] .. فيهم متقبلة   المملوك يجدد تقبي[ل الارض وينهى ان                           ]
  5. [             مـ]ـتولى الحكم العزيز بمدينة ابيار عبد متولية بالمجلـ[ـس العالى                        ]
  6.  [           ينـ]ـهى قضية حال الرقعة ومن رفعها مشافاة [                                            ]
  7. [              ]وقد سيروا جماعة المشائين رقعة للمجلس [ العالى                                      ]

  12. [            ] المفسدين اوقع به الحوطة وحزم به المادة [                                           ]
  13. [            ]ة وبسط المعدلة وذلك بحميد راى مالك رقة [                                        ]
  14. [        وال]مملوك يجدد تقبيل الارض وينهى ان القلم الشريف [                                ]

  1. [ ] When the gross receipts headed with the [noble] motto arrived [ ]

  2. [ ] on the verso of the document of the director of stipends, the footsoldierssupplicated [ ]

  3. [ ] pious prayers for the continuation of these [glorious] days [ ]

  4. [ ] among them its recipient. The slave kisses the [ground] again [and reports tha]t [ ]

  5. [ ] the administrator of the mighty law in the town of ’Abyār, the servant of its administrator in the presence of the [exalted] seat [ ]

  6. [ ] reports the case of his petition and he who submits it orally [ ]

  7. [ ] the community of footsoldiers have sent a petition to the [exalted] seat [ ]

  8. [ ] the exalted rescript of al-Ḥāfiẓ (written) on it is still valid and in force [ ]

  9. the slave] kisses the ground again and reports that the province [ ]

  10. [ ] this [ ] of security, tranquillity and the frequenting of travellers [ ]

  11. [ ] the slave is continuing to patrol with troops to make it secure [ ]

  12. [ ] the brigands, he put it on alert and laid in supplies [ ]

  13. [ ] and extended justice, this was the praiseworthy decision of his master

  14. [ ] The slave kisses the ground again and reports that the noble pen [ ]

  15. [ ] in this year and its glory, and that the stipend that has been bestowedupon him [ ]

  16. [ ] what he needs for the members of his family. He [humbly] requests

  17. [the issuing] of the exalted [rescript], may God increase its nobility and efficacy,(giving instructions) for his lenient treatment [ ]

  18. [ ] on the back of his petition, which has been sent enclosed with his report [ ]

  19. [as a favour for him and] a kindly act

  20. [To my master belongs the exalted resolution in that], if God wills.

  21. [Praise be to God alone, his benedictions be upon our lord Muḥammad, his prophet, and] save him.
