Description

Two fragments comprising the upper part of a letter in Judaeo-Arabic. Addressed to "al-ḥaver al-jalīl" (misspelled אלחבר אלגיל). The writer also uses the letter sin (שׂ) in place of the more standard samekh. The section preserved is mainly a deferential preamble including copious thanks for the addressee's letter and "the piece (al-qiṭʿa) which you gifted me in it." The body of the letter begins with a response to something the addressee said about a Hebrew phrase על כן לא יד (possibly 1 Samuel 5:5) and he responds with an allusion to another Hebrew phrase כן יי(?) כל. There are Arabic jottings in the upper margin. Join: Alan Elbaum.
