Description

Tax receipt issued for the ḍumanāʾ of Sinnūris against revenue delivered by Abū l-Ḥasan b. Wahb. Dated: 26 Jumādā I 405 (Khan: 22 Jumādā I 403 AH). Written by Mīkhāʾīl b. ʿAbd al-Masīḥ the jahbadh and registered by the Dīwān al-ʿAmal and the Dīwān al-Ishrāf. Payment made under the supervision of three officials: (1) under the supervision of the auspicious, rightly guided qāḍī Thiqat al-Mulk Makīn al-Dawla wa-Amīnuhā, protégé of the Commander of the Faithful, Abū l-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Nahār; (2) on behalf of the fiduciary qāḍī Abū ʿAlī l-Ḥasan b. Yaḥyā b. Nahār; and (3) under the tax accounting of the elder Sadīd al-Dawla Abū l-Faraj ʿAbd al-Masīḥ b. Qūrīl. The verso contains the opening of the book of Leviticus in Hebrew written in three columns.

  3. They have registered the amount of three, a half, a third and a sixteenth.
  4. Praise be to God, with the praise of those who give thanks.
  5. In the name of God, the merciful and compassionate.
  6. A valid receipt has been granted to them in al-Šūbays, on behalf of 'Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Wahb the estate-manager
  7. for the year four-hundred and three, under the supervision of the auspicious, rightly-guided judge, Ṯiqat al-Mulk
  8. Makīn al-Dawla wa-ʾAmīnuhā, the protégé of the commander of the faithful, ʾAbū  al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn Bahār, and in the presence of
  9. the trusted judge ʾAbū ʾAlī al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā ibn Bahār, his deputy, 
  10. with the elder Sadīd al-Dawla ʾAbū al-Faraj ʿAbd al-Masīḥ ibn Qūrīl acting as accountant.
  11. Half of this: One, a half, a quarter and an eighth. Its amount: Three, a half, a third  and a sixteenth.
  12. Written by Mīḵāʾil ibn ʿAbd al-Masiḥ the, cashier. Valid. The twenty-second of Jumādā II, 
  13. in the year four-hundred and three.
