Description

Fragment from the bottom of a letter in Judaeo-Arabic. The sender reports that he approached [Abū] Nāṣr Kātib al-Jaysh (=Ḥesed b. Sahl al-Tustarī?) and discussed the situation of three different kinds of garments (kisāʾ, thawb, fūṭa), "which are necessary, whether you travel or are delayed." Abū Naṣr told the sender to be patient until he receives a letter from his brother. The sender is probably now writing to his brother to urge him to send a letter so that the deal can proceed. Greetings to various people including the sender's sister. At the bottom there are a few phrases in Judaeo-Arabic in a crude hand, "as soon as it arrived... I bought a qinṭār..." The same hand continues on verso, "..... and the rest is combed flax"; maybe this is the brother's laconic response. (Information in part from CUDL.)
