Description
Recto (as conserved; secondary inscription): tax receipt issued to Abū l-Ḥasan b. Wahb for his ḍamān on dyeing in Madīnat al-Fayyūm. Dated: 5 Ramaḍān 403 (20 March 1013). Measurements: 12.5 × 8.5 cm. Written by Mīkhāʾīl b. ʿAbd al-Masīḥ the jahbadh and registered by Dīwān al-Ishrāf: Amount: one dīnār and one-quarter, one-sixth, and one-eighth. (Khan reads three, one-third, one-sixth and one-eighth. Under the supervision of the judge Thiqat al-Mulk Makīn al-Dawla wa-Amīnuhā, protégé of the commander of the faithful, Abū l-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Bahār, and the accountant Abū l-Sarī Theodor b. Yuḥannis. Verso (original inscription): see separate entry.

- A valid receipt has been granted to ʾAbū al-Ḥasan ibn Wahb for the sum owed through his standing surety for the estates in the town of al-Fayyūm for the year four-hundred and three,
- under the supervision of the auspicious, rightly-guided judge, Ṯiqat al-Mulk Makīn al-Dawla wa-ʾAmīnuhā,
- the protégé of the commander of the faithful, ʾAbū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn Bahār, with ʾAbū al-Sarī
- Theodor ibn Yuḥannis acting as accountant.
- Half of this: One, a half, a quarter and two qīrāṭs (= a twelfth). Its amount: Three, a third, a sixth and an eighth.
- Written by Mikāʾīl ibn ʿAbd al-Masiḥ, the cashier. Valid. The fifth of the month of Ramaḍān
- in the year four-hundred and three.
