Description

Deed of lease in Arabic. Almost completely preserved. The lessor may be al-Amir al-Muʾayyad (l. 2). The lease is for an empty shop (jamīʿ al-dukkān al-khālī fī mulkihī, l. 3). The next several lines may list the equipment or appurtenances of the shop. The period is one year (li-muddati sana kāmila, l. 7), beginning with Dhū l-Qaʿda of the year '26 (526 AH = 1131/32 CE?). The (total?) sum is given at lower left (min al-ʿayn. . . ). Although it is a legal deed, the format is reminiscent of some state documents with the widened line spacing and this position of the "min al-ʿayn" total. Verso contains a faṣl related to the original deed ("... lāzim li-hādhā l-mustaʾjir. . ."). Merits further examination.
