They received the community's letter and were pained to learn of the doings of the wicked ʿarīf (אלרשע אלעריף), and they also received the two letters addressed to 'the elders of the nation' (shuyūkh al-umma), called 'al-ḥaḍra al-dīwāniyya' and 'al-ḥaḍra al-shaykhiyya al-wakīliyya.'

    Ketubba, very damaged. Names and date are faded. At top is the reshut formula of one of Maimonides' descendants. The hand seems to be identical with that of ENA 2575.7–8, a beautiful letter reporting the sinking of a ship in the Red Sea, dating probably from the 14th century or later based on the mention of the port city of al-Tur, which rose to prominence after the decline of al-Quṣayr. Signed by Yaʿaqov b. Simḥa (who might also be the scribe, see also T-S AS 154.1 (PGPID 18693)) and ʿOvadya b.
