الوصف

Letter from the grandfather of an orphaned girl who is about to marry, to her other grandfather, reminding him of his financial obligations (50 dinars) to the girl, which he made under oath to his dying son, the girl’s father. He warns him that he cannot preserve his reputation (jāh) as one of the 'elders of the nation' (shuyūkh al-milla) when his grandchildren marry like paupers. Written on a narrow piece of parchment with recto and verso at 90 degrees to each other (this may be a sign of disrespect). No names preserved. (Information mainly from CUDL and Goitein's index card.)
