الوصف

Letter/petition from a cantor apparently addressed to Moshe Maimonides. Mainly in Judaeo-Arabic. Dating: ca. 1168–1204 CE, based on the years when Maimonides was active in Egypt. The sender asks him for assistance with the payment of the capitation tax, as he does every year for 200 other people. The petitioner seems to be a Qaraite, as he says "do not make me turn to the Qaraites" (ll. 26–27). (Information from CUDL and Goitein's index card.)
