الوصف

Power of attorney. Location: probably al-Mahdiyya. Dated: 486[.] AM (Goitein read 4861). A certain Efrayim appoints Abūn as his agent (wakīl) for settling his affairs in Egypt (diyār Miṣr), specifically the claims of his late father against Abū Naṣr Musāfir b. [...]. Witnesses: Avraham b. Ḥiyya and Barukh b. Yaʿaqov (for the main document); Barukh b. Yaʿaqov and Palṭiyya b. Avraham (for the addendum). It is possible that all three witnesses signed both sections. The names Yiṣḥaq b. Avraham and Yiṣḥaq b. [...] also appear in the validation. First validation: Signed by Yosef b. Yisraʾel along with (according to the next validation) Moshe b. Labrāṭ, Raḥamim b. ʿAmram, Avraham b. Yaʿ[aqov], and [...] b. ʿEli. These figures are known to have been active in al-Mahdiyya. Second validation (validation of the first validation): Signed by Shela b. Mevasser, Ayyūb b. David ha-Levi and Merayot b. Yosef ha-Kohen Av.
