1. אני כותב לך, אדוני ורבי, ייתן לך אלוהים אריכות ימים ויתמיד את גדולתך ואת עזרתו לך ואת שלומך
2. ואת אושרך, מאלכסנדריה, במחצית כסלו, יודיעך אלוהים את ברכתו. ועכשיו:
3. אודיעך שכתבתי לך מכתבים אחרים, אבל לא ראיתי תשובה אף לא על אחד מהם, אקווה שאתה עסוק בדברים
4. טובים, ברצון האל. הגיע אדוני אבו אלצל זכריא, אבל לא הגיעו המשואים,
5. והם נשארו ברשיד, אלוהים יכתבם לשלום. שאלתי אותו על דבר מכתב ממך,
6. אבל לא מצאתי עמו מכתב, והודיע לי שהגיע עמו מכתב מאדוני אבו אסחק אברהם
7. בן פראח. אבקש ממך שתודיעני על עניין בד הפשתים, אם נמכר, והודע לי את מחיריו
8. .... הצבוע. אני סומך בעניין מכירתו אך ורק על אלוהים ועליך. אם הגיע אדוני
9. ורבי אבו סלימאן בן אלדוידה, מסור לו דרישות שלום ממני. אם נמצא שם אדוני אבו אלחג'אג',
10. מסור לו דרישות שלום. אם הוא בבוציר ואתה כותב לו, סדר שיקנה לי זוג
11. .... לניקוי (הבית), זה הכרחי. התפלאתי, אחי
12. .... לזולת בעשיית קניותיך. מה ההתעלמות הזאת שאני רואה אצלך
13. ...., והצטערתי על זאת עד מאוד ....

1. I am writing, my lord and master — may God prolong your existence and make your glory, support, wellbeing
2. and happiness eternal — from Alexandria in the middle of Kislev, may God make its blessing known to you.
3. I would like to inform you that I have written several let­ters to you and have not seen an answer to any of them, I hope due to some happy
4. distraction. My lord Abū l-Faḍl Zakariyā arrived, but the bales did not arrive with him
5. but remained behind in Rashīd, may God see to their safety. I inquired of him whether he had any letters from you
6. but did not find any with him. He informed me that he brought with him a letter to Abū Sḥaq Avraham
7. b. Faraḥ. I would like you to let me know the news of the silk (shesh) and whether it has been sold. Let me know its unit price
8. for the dyed variety. I rely only upon God and you for its sale. If my lord
9. [the elder] Abū Sulaymān b. Duwayda has arrived, please greet him on my behalf. If my master Abū l-Ḥajjāj is present (in Fustat),
10. give him my regards, and if he is in Būṣīr, convey my greetings to him (there). If you write to him, have him buy me a pair
11. [of pillows?] for sleeping. He must do this for me. O my brother, I continue to be amazed
12. [at your aspersions that I] give precedence to the needs of others over your own. What is the negligence you have observed on my part?
13. This has greatly offended me.
