الوصف
This version of the Grace after Meals, preserved in the Cairo Geniza in two fragments, has aspects that follow Palestinian traditions, aspects that follow Babylonian traditions, and certain phrases that belong to other rites entirely. In the manuscript, the scribe recorded a longer and shorter version of the Grace after Meals, with the suggestion that the shorter text, presented here, be recited on weekdays. The text of the prayer and the initial instructions are entirely in Hebrew. (Information from Posen Library)

Grace after Meals for Weekdays
You, our Eternal God, are the essence of praise, and the universal sovereign, creator of the world and moulder of mankind who prepares food for all his creatures, as the verse has it: You give it openhandedly, feeding every creature to its heart’s content (Psalms 145:16). You, Eternal one, are the essence of blessing who provides food for all. You created the land, you prepared the table, you provided us with Torah and covenant. We therefore thank you and praise your name, as the verse has it: When you have eaten your fill, give thanks to the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you (Deuteronomy 8:10). You, Eternal one, are the essence of blessing who gifted the land and the food. Rebuild your city, re-establish Jerusalem, and mercifully give your attention in our days to your Temple. Speedily restore your messianic kingdom to its place for our eyes are longing for you. Rebuild your holy city in our days, as the verses have it: The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem; He gathers in the exiles of Israel (Psalms 147:2); There I will make a horn sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one (Psalms 132:17). You, Eternal one, are the essence of blessing, God of David and builder of Jerusalem. You, our Eternal God, are the essence of praise, and the universal sovereign, our Holy One, the Holy One [of Jacob], who is a goodly sovereign and confers goodness, who daily does good to us, who in the past,

present and future is the bestower of grace, love and mercy, and of all goodness, as the verse has it: The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is upon all His works (Psalms 145:9). And as it is said in Scripture:, The Lord is good to those who trust in Him, to the one who seeks Him (Lamentations 3:25). And as it is said in Scripture: The Lord is good, a haven on a day of distress (Nahum 1:7). May what we have eaten satisfy us and may what we have left over be blessed. May what we have drunk, and what we shall drink, bring us health. May you be blessed by my God, amen. May you be succored by my God, amen. May you all be blessed.
