الوصف
State document, in Arabic script. Decree of Bahrām, the vizier of al-Ḥāfiẓ, regarding the monks at Mt. Sinai. The vizier instructs the military commander at Sinai to refrain from extracting any produce that belongs to the monks.

- والثمرة بالدير الاعلا المختص بالاسقف والرهبان
- خرج امر فتى مولانا وسيدنا
- الامام الحافظ لدين الله امير المؤمنين
- صلوات الله عليه وعلى ابائه الطاهرين
- وابنائه الاكرمين السيد الاجل امير الجيوش
- سيف الاسلام ناصر الامام غياث الانام
- ابي المظفر بهرام الحافظي
- بكتب هذا المنشور وتضمينه بان الاوامر والسجلات
- لم تزل خارجة برعاية طور سينا
- والاسقف المختص به ورهبانه
- والاشتمال عليهم وكف الاذية عنهم
- وحفظهم وصونهم وانه لما عرضت
- رقعتهم المضمنة ما شكوه انكر ذلك على فاعله
- وخرج الامر الى متولي الحرب الان
- ولى كل وال يتولى هذه الاعمال
- والـ...... والمستخدمين بمنعهم
- من اعتراض شيء يختص بهم من قمح وشعير
- وحبوب والنخل وثمراته والكروم وثمرتها وما يعتصر منها
- وما يختص بهم من الحوائج التي يحصلونها
- برسم معونة من يطرقهم على رسمهم في ذلك
- وعادتهم او التماس شيء منهم على
- سبيل القرض ولا غيره ومن تعرض
- لذلك بعد هذا الانكار وصله من النكير
- ما يحجف به ويكون شعفة لغيره
- فمن قرأه او قرىء عليه من كافة
- الامراء الولاة سلمهم الله وحفظهم
- والمستخدمين فليعلم
- هذا من الامر وليعمل به وليحذر تجاوزه
- وتعدية وليقر بيد مورده بعد الانتهاء
- الى مودعه ان شا الله وكتب
- في ثالث رجب من سنة تسع وعشرين وخمسماية
- الحمد لله وحده وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد بنيه واله
- الائمة الطاهرين وسلم تسليما
- حسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل

- [....] and similarly the corn, barley and
- fruit in the upper monastery which belong to the bishop and the monks;
- the order of 'the servant of our master and lord
- the Imam al-Ḥāfiẓ li-Dīn Allah, Commander of the Faithful,
- God's blessings be upon him, his pure ancestors
- and noble sons: the Most Excellent Lord, Commander of the Armies,
- Sword of Islam, Helper of the Imam, Succour of Mankind,
- Abū l-Muẓaffar Bahrām al-Ḥāfiẓī,
- was issued to write this open decree and to include into it the following: Orders and documents
- have regularly been issued to enjoin that Mount Sinai,
- its bishop and his monks
- should be protected and that harm be kept away from them
- and that they be defended and guarded.
- When their petition containing their grievance was submitted, he was displeased with those who had caused it
- and issued an order to the present military governor,
- those who will be governors in future,
- the ... and the officials,
- forbidding them to interfere with what belongs to the monks, such as corn, barley,
- other grain, palm-trees and their fruit, vineyards and their fruit, the wine which is pressed out;
- and the provisions which they keep ready for their visitors,
- according to their custom and habit,
- or to ask from them things as loan or otherwise.
- Those who dare to do so after the present expression of our displeasure will meet with punishment
- which will teach them better and
- which will be an example for others.
- Let all the amirs, the governors (may God give them peace and preserve them),
- and the officials who read this,
- or to whom this is read,
- take cognizance of this order and act accordingly, and beware of contravening
- or transgressing it. Let it be kept by its deliverer,
- after its contents have been obeyed, if God wills.
- Written this third day of Rajab, in the year Five-hundred and Twenty-nine.
- Praise be to God alone, and may God bless our lord Muḥammad, His prophet, and his family,
- the pure Imams, and may He give them peace.
- God is sufficient for us; how excellent a Keeper is He!
