الوصف

Fragment mostly consisting of pen trials and alphabet exercises in Hebrew and Arabic script. There are a few notable features: (1) On verso a drawing of a ship with seven oars. There are raised sections at the front and the back (masts? forecastle and aftercastle? decorative embellishments?). The text inside reads فرغ المركب ورجع "the ship was emptied and returned." (2) On recto the Hebrew phrase נועדתי בירח מרחשון שנת אתסב בעיר מלוכה "I was appointed(?) in Ḥeshvan 1462 (i.e., October/November 1150 CE) in the city of the king (i.e., Cairo)." (3) A reference to "legal queries from the people of Tilimsān" (שאלות אנשי תלמסאן), probably referring to a collection of queries sent to the Babylonian Gaʾon from that city.
