  1. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
  2. تصل هذه الاحرف ياخى العزيز على اطال الله بقاك وادام تاييدك وعزك وسعادتك ونعمتك
  3. من يد مريني النوبي وكان قد جا رجل يعرف بقيرقة بمرة وطلقها عندي
  4. من مدة طويلة وجانى هذا الرجل موصل هذه الاحرف وكتبت له صداق
  5. هذه الامراة منذ سنته فلما كان في هذا الوقت جا وعدا على زوجة هذا
  6. الرجل واخرجها من بيته وادعا انها زوجته فعند وقوفك ياخى على هذه
  7. الاحرف فتقبض على هذا الرجل وتعمل فى حاله ما يقتضيه الحق
  8. وبعد اخذ حبسه انفذته الى والزوجة وزوجها موصل هذه الاحرف
  9. لانى كتبت طلاقها وانا كتبت صداقها وتكاتبنى بجواب كتابى هذا //لاعمل معهم ما يقتضيه الحق\\
  10. تقرونا باخبارك وباحوالك وحاجاتك لابلغ فيها سارك ان شا الله
  11. خصصتك بافضل سلام الله واطيبه وحسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل
  12. وصلى الله على محمد نبيه واله وسلم تسليما

  1. In the name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate.
  2. These lines are arriving, my dear brother—may God prolong your life and cause your strength, support,
  3. happiness and wellbeing to endure—by the hand of Mariane the Nubian. A man known as Qērqe had come with a woman and divorced her in my presence
  4. a long time ago. The man bringing (to you) these lines came to me and I wrote for him a marriage contract
  5. for this woman a year ago. Recently he (the former husband) came and acted wrongfully towards the wife
  6. of this man and took her out of his house, claiming that she was his wife. When you, my brother, read these
  7. lines, seize this man and do what is required by law with regard to him.
  8. After he has been detained, send him to me together with the wife and her husband, the bearer of these lines,
  9. since I wrote her divorce document and I wrote her marriage document. Reply to this letter of mine, so that I can act with them according to the requirements of the law.
  10. Tell us about your news, your circumstances and your needs, so I can bring about what pleases you with regard to them, God willing.
  11. I send you the very best wishes for God’s peace. God is our sufficiency. What a fine keeper is He!
  12. May God bless Muḥammad, His prophet, and his family, and may He save (them).

  1. By the way, I met you the day before yesterday by
  2. the door of the compound of my lord the commander,
  3. may God cause his exaltation to endure, and I said to you “If you need
  4. anything, I shall do it.” I wish you long life.

  1. والله الله لا تدع ان تنفذ الي هذا الرجل والزوجة وزوجها بعد ان تاخذه
  2. وتعمل معه ما يوجبه الحق لانه عدا على زوجة هذا الرجل
  3. وتكشف حالهم على صح وتوقع فى ذلك ما اشكرك عليه ان شا الله
  4. فقد دخل الى القاضى باخميم ادام الله عزه وانفذه الي لاني كتبت صداقها
  5. وقد عرفتك ذلك لتعلمه ان شا الله

  1. By God, do not delay sending me this man, the wife and her husband after you detain him
  2. and do to him what is required by law, because he actedwrongfully to the wife of this man.
  3. Ensure that their correct legal situation is known and authorise that, God willing. I would be most grateful to you.
  4. He (the bearer of this letter) went to the judge in Akhmīm, may God cause his strength to endure, and he sent him to me, since I wrote her marriage contract.
  5. I have informed you of this, so that you will know it, God willing.
