Latter part of a court document from Fusṭāṭ, around the 1150's. The great merchant Abū l-Maʿālī Shemuel b. Yehuda Ibn Asad is released from any further obligation or debt by Sumr bt. Moshe and her son Abū l-Ḥasan. Sumr and her children were rescued by Shemuel and hid and his house until he settled for them the debts of Sumr's late husband. The deed is signed by Mevōrakh b. Natan he-Ḥaver and Yeḥezqel b. Natan. The validation is signed by Ḥiyya b. Yiṣḥaq, Efrayim b. Meshullam, and Hillel b. Ṣadōq Av bet din. The manuscript is described, and fully translated, in Goitein, Mediterranean Society, V, pp. 356–58. The manuscript is said to be owned at the time by Mr. Daniel M. Friedenberg from New York.
